When was the last time you were tagged in a picture and felt happy with the way you looked? If you’re like most people, you’ve probably been struggling to lose weight or get back in shape for years. Maybe your unhealthy lifestyle choices are starting to show up on your face, or you can’t quite button your favorite jeans.
If this sounds like you, here are some top tips to help you finally get healthy and lose weight this year:
Cut the bad habits
We all have some bad habits that we could do without. For many people, it’s drinking too much alcohol, sucking down too much caffeine, or smoking. Unfortunately, these are the types of habits that can start to become apparent in your face and body- especially once you start hitting your thirties and forties.
One of the worst culprits is smoking. We all know the statistics around cancer, lung disease, and all the other health impacts. But if you’ve ever seen the photos of smokers vs non-smokers, you’ll also know that smoking massively impacts the way (and how fast) you age.
That’s why making the switch to e-cigarettes is such a good idea. Every time you puff on a cigarette, that toxic smoke hits your skin, eyes, and hair. E-cigarettes are much more socially acceptable, and you’ll be able to enjoy a number of different flavors- without constantly smelling like nicotine.
Fasting has recently become hugely popular, and it’s likely that you know a friend or two who does some version of intermittent fasting. There are numerous health benefits, since your body spends less time processing and digesting your food, and more time cleaning out old cells throughout your body.
Not to mention, fasting is a great option if you still want to go out and have fun. Planning a dinner on Friday night? Simply fast until early afternoon or hold off until the dinner, and you’ll be able to enjoy a guilt-free feast. Don’t like to eat breakfast? Awesome, skip it and just eat lunch and dinner. There are plenty of books and resources online, so be sure to check them out.
Increase your activity
If you’re like most people, you probably spend the majority of your day sitting down. This is even worse for people who are lucky enough to work from home, and many of us can go days without even a few thousand steps.
The impact of sitting all the time is huge, and you’re likely to notice weight gain, muscle atrophy, and problems with your neck and back. Make sure you’re taking enough breaks throughout the day, and consider parking further from the office or taking a walk after work.
