I’m not too sure about the ACA and how health insurance works, but it seems like everyone is trying to get healthy these days. In my head, I’m thinking “Finally!” A good place to start is with a proper, balanced diet. Good food can transform your health, energy levels and your life – no understatement here. I have struggled with my energy levels for a while, finding it hard to get out of bed. I went to the doctor to discuss what options were available to me and asked him to take blood tests. My doctor suggested that we try certain medications – but I wasn’t interested. I was set on fixing myself through healthy food and lifestyle.

This lead me to learning more about superfoods – the foods that are jam packed with health benefits, antioxidants and those that have some surprising benefits. When you’re feeling good, with high energy, life is much easier and much more fun. Here are the top 4 superfoods:

Blueberries – These purple little gems are both delicious and nutritious. They are filled to the brim with antioxidants, which have a host of health benefits. They’re also low GI compared to other fruits, making them a great way to get some healthy sugars into you, without the insulin spikes. You can eat them by themselves, with cheese, in a smoothie, on your oats – they’re very versatile.


Dark Chocolate – As if we needed an excuse to eat more chocolate, but if you did you should know that it’s actually good for you. It’s filled with antioxidants that have a range of benefits and chocolate has been shown to make you feel better after you eat it! Dark chocolate is better because it’s higher in cacao and also has a lower sugar content.

Yoghurt – Not only is yogurt a great way to get your calcium and protein needs in for the day, it’s filled with “healthy bacteria” that help your digestion stay in check. There’s also a host of minerals and nutrients that are found in yoghurt that are great for your body. I love making a natural face mask with yoghurt and honey and applying it for 15 minutes before washing it off – your skin will glow.


Avocado – Fats have had a bad reputation in the last few years, but are finally gaining more popularity. They’re filled with healthy omega fats that help with a host of bodily functions, they are also packed with fibre, potassium and a range of b vitamins.

If you’re feeling run down, worn out or just not as good as you think you should, try incorporating some of these super foods into your diet and reap the rewards.
