Romance is the spice of life. It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s day or an anniversary to show your special someone that you care, and the best way to do just that is to whisk them away for a surprise short break in totally different surroundings.

Expensive? Not necessarily! Grab a bargain flight, cut out expensive taxis and public transport by booking your airport parking, with Park BCP offering fantastic rates, and this leaves you more spare to spend on a suitable hotel for your surprise break.

I did come over all romantic a few months ago and did exactly that, and with a total bargain on my airport parking at Manchester, I was able to peruse some of the best hotels on offer in Rome, the destination I chose for our break.

It doesn’t even have to be a city renowned for romance either, because let’s face it Paris could be a bit of a cliché, and Prague is quickly catching up in terms of reputation, with added culture and history too. Venice is probably one of the most spectacular and very different destinations you could consider, or up and coming Dubrovnik in Croatia. Of course, if you’re feeling extremely generous then a week in New York would certainly put a smile on their face!

A friend of mine surprised her other half with a five days’ cruise around the Canary Islands, which was a real bargain when combined with cheap flights and extras, and this went further to save money considering their food and drink was already included. Of course, you might not want to be save money if you’re planning on splashing completely, and in that case you’re spoilt for choice with luxurious hotels in every destination.

If it is a special occasion you’re celebrating, be sure to tell the airline staff and also your hotel, because who knows what special free perks you might receive. During an anniversary trip, I did get free wine and chocolates, so definitely make it known!

You might think it’s a cliché to whisk your other half away for a weekend of romance, but it doesn’t even have to be a grand gesture, in fact the chance just to spend time alone and reconnect is a wonderful choice to make. These days we’re all too busy with work and daily life that we forget to spend quality down time together, so a few days taking the focus off work and turning it to fun and exploration in a different destination could be all you need to rekindle that romantic fire.
